Nelson Business Delegation Visiting Hong Kong and China (April 2014)

In April 2014, a business delegation from Nelson led by Mr. Bill Findlater, Chief Executive of Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency, and Mr. Richard Kempthorne, Mayor of Tasman District Council, visited China and Hong Kong in exploring the business opportunity for fresh high quality A2 pasteurised milk and other dairy products produced by Oakland Farms and Kingsway Farms in Nelson.

Oakland Farms and Kingsway Farms are the oldest family controlling the dairy industry in New Zealand. Mr. Murray King is the Managing Director of Kingsway Farms & Chairman of Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), a stock listed company in New Zealand established over 100 years and a major enabler and contributor for the New Zealand dairy sector, with over 75% of all dairy cows within New Zealand being sired by LIC-owned bulls. Mr. Julian Raine is the Managing Director of Oakland Farms & Chairman of Horticulture NZ. Ms. Sarah Raine is the Marketing Manager of Oakland Farms.

With the extensive network in China and Hong Kong, IEF and ANZ Bank have arranged the business meetings and visits for the delegation. In Hong Kong, they met with Mr. Benjamin Yau, Manager of International Relations at Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC) in giving overview of the Food & Beverage market in Hong Kong. They also met with Kevin Wong, Merchandise Manager and Eric Wong, Category Manager at Dairy Farm which operates the largest supermarket chain in HK (Wellcome) and top end retail outlets (ThreeSixty, Market Place, Jasons, Olivers) as well as convenient stores (7/11).

In Guangzhou, they met with the management of Happy Mart Supermarket and visited their store. This is the first time the delegation visiting China and Hong Kong. It is our great pleasure to introduce well established and historical families and businesses to China and they are excited to be committed for business in China.
